The Marine Enhancement Directory (MEnD) is the UK’s central repository estuarine, coastal, and offshore habitat creation and restoration projects. 

As well as helping us know what is happening where, MEnD will help us report on progress against national and international biodiversity targets and commitments.

These include commitments to: 

• Ensure that at least 30% of areas of degraded marine and coastal ecosystems are under effective restoration by 2030 
• Halt species decline by 2030 
• Increase species abundance by at least 10% by 2042 
• Restore or create more than 500,000 hectares (5,000 km²) of wildlife-rich habitat outside protected sites by 2042 
• Minimize the impacts of climate change on biodiversity and build resilience (e.g., through nature-based solutions and/or ecosystem-based approaches)
• Contribute to environmental, economic and social improvements such as carbon capture, flood management, clean water, clean air, healthy soil, pollination and recreation 
• Ensure that knowledge is available and accessible to guide biodiversity action
